Book Review: Sweet On You

From The Back:

Britt Bradford and Zander Ford have been the best of friends since they met thirteen years ago. Unbeknown to Britt, Zander has been in love with her for just as long.

Independent and adventurous Britt channels her talent into creating chocolates at her hometown shop. Zander is a bestselling author who has spent the past eighteen months traveling the world. He's achieved a great deal but still lacks the only thing that ever truly mattered to him--Britt's heart.

When Zander's uncle dies under mysterious circumstances, he returns to Merryweather, Washington, to investigate, and Britt is immediately there to help. Although this throws them into close proximity, both understand that an attempt at romance could jeopardize their once-in-a-lifetime friendship. Britt is determined to resist any change in their relationship, but Zander finds it increasingly difficult to keep his feelings hidden.

As they work together to uncover his uncle's tangled past, will the truth of what lies between them also finally come to light?
My Reflections:
This is the sweet conclusion to the series "A Bradford Sisters Romance"
This sassy, spunky novel will have you melting if you are a fan of fluffy romance novels. You must read them in order to get the full flavour of the story, so don't start with this one if you are new to Becky Wade.

Zander's character is my all time favourite type of male lead characters. He is a sensitive, deep, attractive and all around kind person. His hard life was probably due to his keen drive and doggedly dedicated personality.
It kind of killed me how he was so helplessly infatuated with Britt. He was an expert in all things Britt (his words)

Britt, on the other hand, is sassy, fun and very generic. She has to slowly awake to the fact that Zander is attracted to her in more than a friend zone. This seemed to take forever and I felt like bopping her on the head to say, duh, come on woman it's so obvious that he is head over heels for you!

The icing on the cake is the unexpected mystery in this plot. It was a nice distraction from the romance that had been baking for 14 long years. As you can guess I loved Zander, he was just so adorable and his character just clicked for me. That is unusual as I tend to favour the female lead characters!

If you are up for a nice romance with a twist of mystery this series will give you all that and a little more! I'm kind of sad to see this series end but also eager to see what Wade has up her sleeve for the next set of novels.

Book Review: The Christmas Heirloom

From the Back:
Four Festive and Heartwarming Romance Novellas That Celebrate the Magic of Christmas Perfect for the Christmas season, four beloved authors bring their bestselling, award-winning talents to a multigenerational collection of romantic holiday novellas. In stories ranging from 1820s Regency England to present-day Washington state, readers will be treated to Christmas tales of an heirloom brooch passed from mother to daughter for almost two hundred years. Will the family legend claiming the brooch brings love to its recipient hold true for these women separated by the years but bonded together by the ties of family?

In Kristi Ann Hunter's "Legacy of Love," Sarah Gooding never suspected returning a brooch to an elderly woman would lead to a job . . . and introduce her to the woman's grandson. While he may be far above her station, she can't help but notice that his desire to make this Christmas special for his grandmother matches her own.

In Karen Witemeyer's "Gift of the Heart," widow Ruth Fulbright uses the family brooch as collateral for a loan from a wealthy resort owner. But the more she comes to know the man behind the stern businessman, the more she hopes for a second chance at love as the holidays draw near.

In Sarah Loudin Thomas's "A Shot at Love," Fleeta Brady's rough-and-tumble childhood means she prefers hunting to more feminine activities. She never expected her mother's brooch might be how a fellow hunter turns her attention from competition to romance one December.

In Becky Wade's "Because of You," Maddie Winslow has spent years in love with a man whose heart was already spoken for. When a church Christmas project brings them together and she stumbles upon an old family brooch, might it finally be her turn for love?

My Reflections:
Christmas is just around the corner, are you in the Christmas spirit?
I have to admit I am not feeling the warmth of the season this year, however, this novella set my spirits just a tiny bit brighter!

All the tales have the connection of a central theme, the legacy of a brooch.
Each and every story in this four is so different the reader will have no problems with getting mixed up or the stories melding together into a soup of sappiness.
The plots, in fact, are all so wildly different that it made me smile and laugh out loud in many places! You can't even count on the time period or setting to be consistent in these novels.  We go from England (1827); Texas (1890): West Virginia (1958) and back to the present time in Washington! I was contemplating which of the novellas was my favourite, and I simply can't choose just one. All these authours, each and everyone are on my favourite lists. They differ in writing styles and intensity but are similar in quality and sweetness.

I don't think I have read a more cohesive novella, every story different but tie-ins to each one. I also found it so clever that we see so many connections to the author's series as well, brilliantly executed!
If you are looking for a completely unique read that will engage not only your heart but also your sense of tradition, look no further. Christmas is fast approaching, run don't walk.
This is the perfect cozy fire, hot chocolate Christmas day read.

Book Review: Falling For You

From The Back:

Famously beautiful model Willow Bradford is reveling in the peace and quiet of her hometown right up until the moment she comes face-to-face with her ex-boyfriend, Corbin Stewart.

Former NFL quarterback Corbin is forceful, charming, and accustomed to getting what he wants . . . except where Willow is concerned. He's never been able to forget her, but Willow makes it crystal clear she's unwilling to risk her heart again.

When a decades-old mystery in Corbin's family brings them together, will the heartbreak in their past and the complications in their present keep them from falling for one another all over again?

My Reflections:
I fell for the cover of Becky Wade's newest book first. I must admit I didn't even read the back before I ordered it. I saw "Becky Wade" and the gorgeous cover and that sold me! Besides the fact that I read "True to You" in this same series and had to find out what happened to Willow one of the Bradford sisters.
Willow Bradford and Corbin Stewart are thrown back together again to try to solve an old mystery, their past, however, puts them at odds from the get-go.
I found that I didn't bond with the main characters Wilow and Corbin right off. Willow is a Model and used to the finer things in life, she just seemed a little flaky at first. Corbin a former NFL quarterback was also not the type of character I would normally jell with. However, this changed for me once I really delved into the storyline, I got over it and they both won me over by the end of the novel.
The story is savoury read, centred on redemption with a romantic flair, add a little mystery and you have a splendid summer escape!
One word of caution, however. This book is definitely PG 13. I will not be sharing it with my 16-year-old. It contains some suggestive romantic descriptions and immoral character choices. I read all types of books, mostly Christian, and I found this one to be crossing my comfort zones in the Christian romance category. Just a heads up for the discerning reader.
All that aside Wade's writing was a pleasure to read, her stories shine off the pages, she has a real talent for weaving in relevant life struggles, with well planned out sigh-worthy endings. I look forward to the next book in this series where we learn more about the other Bradford sister Brit.

Book Review: True To You

From the Back:

After a devastating heartbreak three years ago, genealogist and historical village owner Nora Bradford decided that burying her nose in her work and her books is far safer than romance in the here and now.

Unlike Nora, former Navy SEAL John Lawson is a modern-day man, usually 100 percent focused on the present. However, when John, an adoptee, is diagnosed with an inherited condition, he's forced to dig into the secrets of his ancestry.

John enlists Nora's help to uncover the identity of his birth mother, and as they work side by side, this pair of opposites begins to suspect that they just might be a perfect match. But can their hope for a future survive their wounds from the past?
My Reflections:
Becky Wade pens a touching light-hearted romance, with so much more than meets the eye. It starts with the beautiful cover and just gets better from there. Get ready for a beautiful story of love and faith and self-worth.

I loved Nora's character, serious, bookwormish and traditional. She is the typical middle sister in her family, the one everyone passes over. Nora has never felt like she actually had the attributes her sisters had.  Now an adult she has created her own identity, comfortable and stable. Her idea of unwinding is watching old movies, drinking hot tea and loosing herself in a good book.

Hiding behind frumpy clothes and an outdated hairstyle has managed to band-aid the pain of her past breakup, but when a handsome Navy SEAL comes to her for help her predictable routine lifestyle gets turned upside down!

John Lawson, however, is taken, and he is certainly a man on a mission. Ex-Navy SEAL decorated with the Medal of Honor, John now runs a security training business. However, this man has layers, tough guy on the outside, hurting on the inside. When his life is toppled upside down with an inherited medical condition he must search for answers. I love the journey this character takes, it is a beautiful thing watching the development of faith with past and present issues.

If you want more to this story there is a free (as of publication of this post) novella prequel called "Then Came You" This book will give you the full story of the Bradford family, however, I was just fine reading this as a standalone.

If you are looking for a heartfelt, funny yet emotional read this book boasts all of these elements in one beautifully written book!
I would highly recommend you add this one to your summer reading list!
